Accommodation

Crab Hall is an annexe of Bagdale Hall, a period house that is the oldest building in Whitby. Each room at Crab Hall includes a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, a TV, a tea and coffee maker, and an electric kettle. Guests stay in a Deluxe Double Room with a four-poster bed or a Superior King Room, all located in a separate building from the main hall.

The hotel has a restaurant in Bagdale Hall that serves lunch and dinner, with a large fireplace in the dining room. Breakfast is included and offers a full selection with tea and coffee, though espresso-based drinks are not available at breakfast. Guests can also use the bar for drinks and the small beer garden attached to Bagdale Hall.

Location

Crab Hall is less than a 10-minute walk from the harbour and the swing bridge in central Whitby. Whitby Beach is less than 1 km from the hotel, and Whitby Abbey is a 13-minute walk away. The hotel offers free on-site private parking, a rare find this close to the town centre, and is within 30 km of Peasholm Park and Scarborough Castle.

Dining: Restaurant with large fireplace & beer garden

Location: 10-min walk to harbour & swing bridge

Parking: Free private parking in central Whitby

Rooms: Deluxe Double Rooms with four-poster beds

“I found the buildings brimming with character and appreciated the convenient on-site parking; the staff stood out as incredibly friendly and helpful, setting a great vibe. The bedrooms in the annex, in my opinion, could use a touch more attention to truly shine. Overall, a stay here presents a comfortable base for exploring Whitby.”

Crab Hall, connected to the historic Bagdale Hall, offers guests convenient car parking and is ideally located just steps from the bus terminus, railway station, and harbour. Guests appreciate having plenty of tea bags and milk in their rooms, along with amenities like central heating and televisions, and some have enjoyed ground-floor annex rooms with four-poster beds and nice shower rooms. The excellent breakfast is a recurring highlight, and there's even a lovely little beer garden for guests to enjoy, though a few guests have noted that some rooms can be smaller than expected and may lack windows.

Really good Stay near the Harbour

convenient location free parking excellent breakfast hardworking staff
The location proved convenient. Car parking at the rear of the hotel was available without additional charge. Breakfast was excellent each morning. The lady at reception worked so hard (I appreciate that so much).
The pillows were firmer than I prefer.

Just Acceptable Stay

worn furnishings firm pillows
The location was acceptable and within walking distance of town.
The room furnishings looked very worn, and the marked pine furniture detracted from the room's appeal. The absence of a restaurant on-site was problematic. I found sleep difficult due to excessively firm pillows. Softer pillows were provided only for the second night

worn furniture street noise
The staff was great to my needs.
The room I booked, a 'Beautiful King Room', was not as luxurious as I had hoped. The furniture seemed quite worn, and there were some noticeable stains on the carpet. I also found the noise from the nearby street disturbing, especially late at night, even with the windows closed.
